Welcome to Our Website!
Your home is the most important asset you have, so when you’re ready to build or remodel, get yourself the best General Contractor in the area!

We’ve been in business for over 20 years, specializing in residential construction. Joe is very hands-on and as he is on site all day, every day, he keeps a careful eye on all subconctractors, who by the way have been working with Workhorse Construction for years.

Joe constantly educates himself on changing building codes and the latest construction products and techniques in the trade. The best aspect of working with Joe is he is such an excellent communicator, which is the most important aspect of choosing a good builder, second only to their skill level.

Why Choose Us?
Joseph Peden, the builder, is on site, every day working
side-by-side with his own crew and subcontractors and only works on one job at a time until completion.
Workhorse Construction
Joe started in construction while in high school. Since then he has completed complex remodeling projects from adding first and second floors to new construction of expensive camps and high-end homes. Although he is in the process of becoming certified as a green builder he was ahead of his time when he remodeled an old house on Spear Street where he converted existing roof planes into new walls, sheathing and all. He is very interested in passive homes.

How our site works and what you will find here:
Our services and portfolio pages have links to every category of projects that we specialize in. That includes stick built homesadditionsfront porches and entrywaysbath and kitchen remodeling, modular homes, garages and decks3-season porchesadding-a-floor (2nd or 3rd to an existing house), dormers (partial or full) and replacement windows and doors

In addition, our Helpful Aids page has:
  • list outlining why a consumer needs to be careful of making a decision based strictly on price;
  • information on passive and earth sheltered buildings. Joseph worked as a volunteer on a modular passive home for Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity that was featured on page 20 of the December 20th 2010 issue of the Vermont Builder + Architect Magazine. The modules were supplied by Preferred Building Systems, which builds superior energy efficient modules;
  • a comprehensive checklist for either renovating an existing residence or for building a new home with
          Aging in Place as an objective;
  • links and a checklist if you are considering either stick building or using modules to build a new home.

Other pages include photos on framing, using ICF forms to build a modular home in Ferrisburg, testimonials (2 pages: page 1 and page 2), information on our 3D design services and additional pages on the second modular home that we built, more 3-season and screened porches, more stick built homes (page 1 and page 2) and finally, another page on Adding-a-Floor.

Last but not least you can take a look at the books and publications Joe reads and view a sample specification sheet for a recent project we completed.
